MUP [Ministry of Interior Affairs] DRAFTS BY FORCE
VREME, September 4th, 1995
A large number of the refugee families from Krajina, whose male
members were captured by the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MIA), and whose
fate is, as of yet, unknown, have appealed to the Helsinki Committee on
Human Rights. The Committee mentioned one of the appellants - a mother of
Djuro Solaja (b.1971) who, together with his pregnant wife, after the
operation "Storm" [Croatian takeover of the Krajina region], found refuge
in Jagodina. Serbian MIA took him away on August 20th, and he has not been
heard from since then. Djuro Solaja's mother tried to find the whereabouts
of her son from the authorities - Serbian Government, Serbian Ministry of
Internal Affairs, and from the Bureau of the Srpska Republic in Belgrade.
The Helsinki Committee has asked all refugees with similar problems to
contact them.
CINDERS EXPEL THE MOSLEMS
(The authorities helpless against the terrorists)
VREME, September 4th, 1995
Ten Moslem families have left their homes in the Batkovic
village, in the Priboj municipality, in fear that their houses might be
burned down. The president of the municipal seat of the Democratic Party
in Priboj, Smajo Polimac, said that "all the remaining inhabitants of
Batkovic village fled after the houses of Sefik Islamagic and Akif
Dedovic were set on fire, on August 20th and 22nd." He added that the
fleeing families found refuge in the houses of their relatives in Priboj,
and that he talked with the president of Priboj municipality, Milic
Popovic, on this subject. According to Polimac, during the conversation,
Popovic declared that the authorities of Priboj "were unable to prevent the
expulsion of Moslems, and protect the citizens of the municipality from
violence." He added that in Priboj, as of now, 60 houses and businesses
owned by Moslems have been burned down, but the authorities have not
identified the culprits in a single case.
