It is undeniable that in the Homeland War Serbia was the aggressor on Croatia. She was the enemy, and since to this date all data about the captives and the missing haven't been provided to the Republic of Croatia, and Serbia never officially apologized for the organized genocide, that state cannot even today be considered for a friendly country.
In the past war Serbia demonstrated enviable skill in propaganda war. It should be recalled that as early as 1991 the Serbian authorities hired "Saatchi and Saatchi" from London, one of the most prominent marketing companies in the world, with the task to present the aggression on Croatia to the international community as a civil war in Croatia. Could anyone serious forget the lie about "42 slain Serb children in Vukovar". That happened at just about the same time when Vukovar was facing its fall and when the Croatian delegations spread out throughout the world in order to force a recognition of Croatia.
As Dr. Zdravko Tomac testifies today, instead of talking on the BBC about why it was necessary to recognize the independence of Croatia, he had to prove that the footage of allegedly slain children was a skillfully edited fake. That was later proven but the time was irreversibly lost. Vukovar fell and numerous wounded and captives were beastly murdered.
Somehow at the same time Belgrade TV showed corpses of murdered and burnt people. They claimed that these corpses belonged to Serbs executed in Gospic. In the Croatian media that photo was captioned as that of Croats mercilessly executed by the rebels and the members of the Yugoslav People's Army. Since the same photo was shown by the media of both warring sides, but with different captions, an unbiased observer would have a hard time making up his mind whom to believe. However, the fact that the Vukovar story about "slain children" was proven as a total fake of the Serbian propaganda machinery, which employed big marketing firms, proves that the Serbian media are not reliable.
Information mistrusted by unbiased observers abroad in the past is today offered by some Croatian media, and even the main Croatian TV news program, on Monday, as the key evidence of guilt of some Croatian volunteers and officers!
The Croatian TV report talks about 24 slain Serb civilians, and all of that was broadcast in order to deny the words of attorney Zeljko Duvancic who claims that without corpses and identity of the alleged victims there is no crime. We shall discuss how the charges came from 40 down to 24 bodies on some other occasion. Thus, the Croatian TV, referring to Novi List, is trying to prove that there are corpses, identified corpses. Again they showed photographs from 1991, and the Military Medical Academy from Belgrade is given as the source.
Therefore media in Croatia are referring to the evidence provided by the medical institution of the enemy army. Perhaps someone would say that in the east democratic changes are taking place and the VMA is after all a medical institution. However, it should be kept in mind that Vojislav Kostunica, the alleged winner of the presidential elections and the carrier of alleged democratic process in Serbia, very clearly stated that he would not extradite Milosevic to the Hague so that he can be tried for all the wartime evil in Croatia and Bosnia-Hercegovina.
As far as the VMA is concerned, it is run by the officers of the Yugoslav Army, and they proved their (lack of) humanity by failing to still provide data about the wounded and missing Croat soldiers who passed through their hands. And the state-controlled media in Croatia are referring to such sources, proving alleged war crimes allegedly committed by Croatian officers. Have we really gone that far?
