Slobodna Bosna, or "Free Bosnia" is a challenging, investigative weekly magazine based in Sarajevo. It is one of the highest recipients of Open Society Fund financial support and has received some 550,000 DM in 1996 and 1997. Slobodna Bosna sells in both the Federation and Srpska and its circulation in 1997 was at 35,000 copies. Its editor-in-chief, Senad Avdic, was recently sentenced conditionally to six months in jail for slander. The on-line edition of Slobodna Bosna carries a few articles from the printed edition, in Bosnian.
