July 12 - The Council for Peace Implementation in Brussels approved the naming of Wolfgang Petritsch as high representative for BH and appointed ambassadors Ralph Johnson and Matej Hoffman as his deputies.
July 30 - The Southeastern Europe Stability Pact summit was held in Sarajevo.
The high representative published his decisions regarding the restructuring of the public broadcasting system, freedom of the press and decriminalization of slander, the law amending the law on the BH supreme court, the law amending the law on the office of the BH public prosecutor, and the law on witness protection in criminal cases in BH. The high representative also published his decision on identification cards, on reconnection of pre-war telephone subscribers in BH, on common emblems and symbols, the law on BH administrative taxes and a decision by which the Serb Democratic Party president, Dragan Cavic, was reinstated as a parliamentary representative.
August 12 - The final version of the annexes to the decision on Brcko was published.
August 25 - Austrian authorities in Vienna arrested the head of the General Staff of the Republic of Srpska Army, General Momir Talic, on the basis of a sealed indictment signed on March 12 by Louise Arbour, then the chief prosecutor of the Hague tribunal.

October 5 - The deputy high representative, Ralph Johnson, and the head of the OSCE mission, Robert Barry, ordered the Serb Radical Party (SRS) to pre-register, but without Nikola Poplasen and two other party officials in leadership positions; otherwise SRS would not be allowed to participate in municipal elections.
October 19 - The Hague tribunal found Goran Jelisic not guilty of genocide but guilty of crimes against humanity and violence toward victims of the war.
October 21 - Ambassador Robert Barry, the head of the OSCE mission in BH and the head of the Election Commission formally presented the draft of the Election Law to the BH parliament.
October 22 - The Temporary Election Commission refused to confirm the participation of the Serb Radical Party and the Serb Party for the Republic of Srpska in the 2000 municipal elections, with the explanation that SRS did not remove its president and two other party officials from their functions as requested.

November 8 - The independent commission for media opposed the decision of the RS government to replace the general director of Serb Radio Television, Andjelko Kozomara, assessing this decision by the government to be illegal.
November 15 - The high representative welcomed the New York Declaration and the principles establishing a state border patrol which the common BH presidency vowed to implement.
November 16 - The high representative abolished the decision of the RS National Parliament which had canceled evictions during the winter period.
November 29 - The high representative and the head of the OSCE mission published their decision removing 22 public officials from office.
December 7 - The Temporary Election Commission adopted operational directives for the implementation of regulations by which residents illegally occupying multiple housing units are forbidden to participate in municipal elections.
