According to the statement of one of the found patients, he and other wounded terrorists were brought to this improvised facility by representatives of humanitarian organisations. Unfortunately, this is only the latest recorded example which clearly demonstrates that some of the numerous humanitarian organisations in Kosmet have "expanded" the scope of their work beyond the humanitarian domain. Alegedly motivated by noble causes such as helping suffering people, relieving humanitarian situation in crisis areas, and other proclaimed goals of their activities, the humanitarian organizations are increasingly frequently engaging in a significantly different sort of "humanitarian work".
Thus in mid-July Sally Becker (37), a housewife from east Sussex according to the British press, and an independent humanitarian worker, according to her own claims, was arrested because of her unauthorised crossing of the Yugoslav border. Namely, her humanitarian work was to guide Albanian people across the border, without documents and avoiding regular border crossings. The true goal of her activities in Kosovo and Metohija may never be uncovered; in any case, six of her fellow-nationals have announced that they would sue Backer and her agency - the "Operation Angel," because she had exposed them to risk during their stay in the crisis area, and during the "war tourist" tour for which each had paid GBP500
After her divorce from mega-star Mike Jegger, his ex-wife Bianca found herself on the margins of her earlier media popularity. In July she turned up in Kosovo and Metohija as a member of the "Amnesty International" - organisation for human rights. Yet, her stay in Kosmet would have been useless if it didn't result in expected personal promotion. Instead of concerning herself with causes because of which she allegedly went to Kosmet, after the return to her home country this woman devoted herself to personal promotion, explaining in the House of Commons of the British Parliament how she had been "interrogated," "arrested," "exposed to threats"...
Fernando del Mundo's motivation (he is the UNHCR Spokesman for Kosmet) also remains unclear; he alarmed the public with the "news" that long columns of refugees were fleeing from tanks and troops that had destroyed their villages on the road southward from Pec. It is not known whether he was seeking personal promotion as an agile humanitarian worker, or simply tried to contribute to the prevailing media picture of Serbia; whatever the case, nobody could confirm his "discovery", neither diplomatic missions, nor the UNHCR representatives, nor any other concerned parties.
Besides sensationalistic and utterly unsubstantiated statements by certain humanitarian workers, certain humanitarian organisations have also diversified their activities in other ways. In almost all liberated terrorist bases in Kosmet, the police has been finding huge amounts of medicines, medical supplies, medical equipment and foodstuffs with labels which clearly indicate that these supplies had been provided by international humanitarian organisations. For instance, in August, after the village of Lapusnik was freed from terrorists, the police also found abundant supplies originating from the "Mother Theresa," the International Red Cross, west European humanitarian organisations and Islamic humanitarian organisation "Merhamet." Although mentioned organisations argued that they had been distributing foodstuffs to civilians, their supplies were found in terrorists' military depots in Malisevo and other villages. Thus, in Klecka, beside cremated bodies of murdered civilians, the police also found 800 parcels with a label "Food - Gift from the USA citizens," distributed through humanitarian organizations.
Of course it would be wrong to suspect all humanitarian organisations of activities beyond the scope of humanitarian work, yet it is the fact that certain among them do engage in such activities. World-wide in various hot spots various secret activities go on under the cover of humanitarian organisations, foreign press corespondents or monitors. When such affairs are revealed, the organisations which provide formal cover to such entrepreneurs - humanitarian and the like workers, always present the whole case as an individual act, a negligence or something of the sort.
