Regardless of the fact that in the time between these two tragedies many conditions have changed, the hypocrisy and fake concern of the American administration and its satellites from Europe have remained a constant. This hypocrisy has fully betrayed almost all principles on which the Western society used to be based. Western powers supposedly started the aggression on Yugoslavia in order to prevent violations of these principles. More than 200,000 people expelled under pressure from Kosmet, hundreds of murdered, wounded or abducted, tens of thousands of destroyed houses, tens of demolished Serb sacred sites and so on are only some of the results of the work of bandits since the arrival of KFOR. Apart from verbal reactions and tepid interventions in the field, KFOR is still doing nothing in order to stop the evil in the Balkans.
The fact that even the U.N. has failed to make a more decisive move to stop a sarcastic political game in Kosmet, confirms the predictions of numerous foreign and domestic analysts who in such a development of the situation see a logical continuation of the intentions shown during the aggression on our country and attempts to establish a new geopolitical order in this part of the Balkans under the guise of peace implementation. First, they bombarded us for humanitarian reasons and today they have the so-called international forces provide security for ethnic cleansing. This fact is now even openly proclaimed by the part of the world public. However, in spite of everything, the situation in the field has improved very little. On the contrary, it is getting worse day by day.
What does the most recent ethnic cleansing of Serbs from Kosmet show?
It is obvious that the multiethnic character of the society in Kosmet advocated by the International Community, protection of human and minority rights, establishment of stability in the region, provision of security for the citizens etc., in light of current events sound rather sarcastic and in the best possible way illustrate to what extent some key principles have been betrayed under the blue U.N. flag. The reason for that is the lack of respect for the U.N. Security Council resolution 1244. Our authorities have stressed that on several occasions with public statements. However, the extent to which the World Organization is submerged in the existing balance of power has in this case shown its worst side. Because of that, for example, it is possible that numerous spokespersons all over the planet are repeating that Yugoslav borders cannot be changed, while in reality the border between this part of Yugoslavia and Albania does not exist. This is a sort of an ugly precedent for Europe and fateful reason for many events in Kosmet.
In this important detail it is possible to discern aggressive American attempts to achieve full domination over Europe, as is especially emphasized by the situation in and around Kosmet. In that sense, probably the best illustration is the attitude of the American KFOR troops with respect to "KLA", obviously guided by the policy of the American administration. Using "KLA" as storm troopers for the prolongation of instability, the American policy is not only establishing an outline of a new state in the Balkans but at the same time also clearly showing to the European allies who is the boss in this part of Europe.
Consequently it is not surprising that "KLA", in spite of various agreements, still hasn't been disarmed, that in spite of tepid condemnations it continues to expel and intimidate remaining Serbs, Roma, Turks and other non-Albanians, that a rule of criminal gangs, drug traffickers, and weapons smugglers has been established in the territory of the southern Serbian province, that the Albanian scourge of instability is spreading, threatening not only Kosmet and the stability of this part of the Balkans but also the long-term stability of Europe.
The establishment of political and security situation which is worse and more dangerous than the one before the arrival of KFOR is interpreted by some analysts as a sort of fabrication of a new "burden for Belgrade", visible in the attempts to blame the authorities in Belgrade [for the current suffering of Serbs in Kosmet] and thereby inspire a violent overthrow of legally elected authorities. Because of that, it is telling that very little or nothing has been said about the fate of Kosmet [at the recent opposition rallies]. Consumed by the struggle for power, most of opposition politicians are treating Kosmet as unimportant. They are consciously neglecting to explain to themselves and their potential voters how it is possible to expect anything good from foreign advocates of changes the leadership in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia if with their policy and actions they have brought Kosmet to the edge of becoming an ethnically cleansed territory and if that ethnic cleansing has been achieved with use of all sorts of terrorist and fascist methods which are deliberately interpreted as a consequence of the revenge of previous victims of the regime. Thereby KFOR is deliberately trying to minimize crimes and put their consequences "in context". Also, thereby some of more extremist opposition politicians are transformed into advocates of power brokers from abroad who sell neglect and forgetting of Kosmet under the guise of the criticism of the regime.
It would be naive to expect a radical change in the behavior of the International Community, as is fatefully irresponsible to use the Kosmet question in the struggle for power. The very moment when Kosmet for some in the opposition became the means for winning power the background of the whole U.N. operation became more clear, as well as the general lack of wisdom in Serbia to, in spite of political differences, preserve national unity regarding the key issues.
There is no doubt that Belgrade will have to make moves in order to prevent a total secession of Kosmet. For that, it is necessary to achieve that kind of national unity that is the result of the realization that at this moment there is no more important issue for the future and survival of the Serb nation than the question of Kosmet.
