Following the example of Nasa Borba, the editorial board and journalists of weekly Svetlost (light), reacted to the August 1995 takeover of the paper by the authorities by submitting a collective resignation and starting a new weekly: Independent Svetlost. Magazine is of civil-liberal orientation and the basic aims of the editorial policy are: the contribution to the creation of democratic, free, and open society, multiparty parliamentarism, open market, freedom of the media and struggle for human rights. The magazine is published in 6,000 copies whish are distributed in the region (Sumadija, in central Serbia) but, according to the polls, is read in 25,000 households (out of total 55,000). The editorial policy of the magazine is lead by the desire to defend and promote "free world and journalist honor". Because of that Nezavisna Svetlost initiated association of independent local media of Serbia (see Press Now report on independent media in Serbia). Recent issues, in Serbian, can be found at the Nezavisna Svetlost server.
