Vranje - Yesterday, "Zajedno" coalition supporters continued their walks through the streets of Vranje [industrial town in southern Serbia]. These demonstrations have been registered with the local police until January 14. During the coming days, the demonstrators expect to hear "Zajedno" representatives from Belgrade; participants in the Student protest in Belgrade will also be asked to come to Vranje. The organizers plan to start with public broadcasts of "Voice of America" and "Radio Free Europe" news via loudspeakers in the streets of the town.

Starting today, citizens from the south of Serbia will be able to hear news programs prepared by "Zajedno" coalition, which cover all important developments within the country and abroad; these programs will also include information about the current events in Pcinja district [in the south of Serbia] which are ignored by the state-controlled media. The news programs will be available 24 hours a day and can be heard by calling phone number 017/22-408.

In Bor About 3,000 Citizens Joined Demonstrations

Nasa Borba, Beograd, FR Yugoslavia, 12/13 1996

Bor - In spite of a ban by authorities, about 3,000 citizens gathered yesterday in front of the House of Culture in Bor [Bor is a mining center in eastern Serbia]. After the latest news by "Deutsche Welle" [German "Voice of America"] were read, the gathered citizens were addressed by the Serbian Renewal Movement deputies Milic Mutavdzic and Dragoljub Janes, and Bor city hall deputy and a candidate for mayor, Dragomir Dragic.

After that, the citizens went for a walk along the main street in Bor. Bor students were unable to join the demonstrations because of the explicit ban by the head of Bor university and a loosing Socialist candidate for the Bor city hall, Nedeljko Magdalinovic. He threatened to expel those students who join the protests from the University and to make sure that they would find it impossible to find employment in Bor. Some students have stated that they would ignore Mr. Magdalinovic's threats and would join the protests today.
