Dnevnik Most Balanced News Publication

Ten percent of poll participants who identified themselves as ethnic Albanians responded that they used Dnevnik as their primary news source

According to a poll conducted by the Institute for Democracy, Solidarity, and Civil Society, the daily Dnevnik is an equally acceptable source of information for people with different political views.

Comparison of the answers given by poll participants indicates that 44.3 percent of participants who identified themselves as supporters of the ruling coalition most frequently use Dnevnik as their source of information. At the same time, 41.5 percent of those who identified themselves as the supporters of the coalition of the opposition parties also read Dnevnik. Out of the supporters of the Liberal Party, the Democratic Alliance, and the VMRO-True, 38.9%, 50.0% and 36.8% respectively stated that they most frequently get their information about political events from Dnevnik.

The attitude with respect to other printed media is different. Out of all poll participants who identified themselves as the opposition supporters, 25.2% most frequently get their information from Utrinski Vesnik, 19.4% from Vecer, 3% from Makednoia Denes, 2.7% from Nova Makedonija and another 2.7% from Vest. Out of those poll participants who identified themselves as the supporters of the ruling coalition, besides 44.3% who stated that they get their information from Dnevnik, 36.4% read Vecer, 5% Nova Makedonija, 4.3% Makedonija Denes, 3.6% Utrinski Vesnik and 1.4% Vest. The poll results include comparison tables including the data about the number of readers (viewers) of media broken down according to the ethnicity, religious affiliation, age, education and profession of the poll participants.

It is interesting that 10% of those poll participants who identified themselves as ethnic Albanians responded that they most frequently get information about political events form Dnevnik.

Dnevnik is also the most frequent source of information for students (55.3%), white collar workers (44.7%), entrepreneurs (34.5%), blue collar workers (36.5%) and farmers (20%).

The Institute for Democracy, Solidarity, and Civil Society is a non-governmental organization formed in June 1999. Dr. Gjorgji Ivanov, a professor at the Skopje University Law School, is its president. 20 students of the Law School conducted the poll.
