Still, there is a party, which belongs to the croatian state and the croatian political corpus, but its pre-election approach is full of unintelligible borrowing, full of aggression which belongs to a different time, different relations and the past. Serbian Peoples Party (SPP) has approached relations with the Croatian government and state with repeatedly expressed crudeness, trying to challenge the authorities and provoke a clash through use of lies; clash which would according to their wishes grow into a scandal and finally absolutely cast a shadow on the elections, deleting their real purpose.
Let us remember two public appearances of the party representatives which occured in the last few days. First, SPP sent a letter to Krunoslav Olujic, the president of the State election commission, in which it puts forward twenty questions. SPP asked for data about the number of voters of serbian nationality. Recall what this was called less than a year ago. Even a mention of a certain "number of Serbs" here and there was called "counting" and could have put you in one of those serb hotels with a foul odor of torture.
Further, SPP with authority asked about the number of Serbs in Croatia. "Exactly how many citizens of serb nationality are there? On which state or international indicators is this number based on?" SPP also asked "whether the Serbs will be denied a right to have their party list" based on nationality. Where in the world are there democratic elections based on the nationality of the citizens. Croatia is an absolute exception in this and allows for that possibility only because the Croatian government doesn't miss any opportunity to show its generosity and open arms towards Serbs, who pillaged Croatia for seventy years and then slaughtered and burned it for another five. In Croatia even Croats cannot use their nationality for participation in politics, but their membership in a political party. SPP is a lawful and registered party in the republic of Croatia. Who is preventing it to submit its own state election list? Well, if in Croatia there are indeed more Serbs then the Croatian government claims, if the numbers were, as the SPP insinuated, falsified, then it is obvious that with such a state election list SPP would have to obtain more than enough votes for a triumphant entry into the parliament.
Finally, Dukic and his lot, asked "how will in the elections participate croatian citizens of serb nationality who will at the time of the election be situated in internationally unrecognized states in which Croatia has a Representative Office?" There is only one such state, Serbia. Croatian citizens of serbian nationality who "happen to be" there during the war have either already made their choice or have committed many crimes end fled in front of the Storm. Maybe, Dukic would like to quickly obtain domovnice [a document, proof of Croatian citizenship] for serb fugitives and then, using the elections as an excuse, bring them back quickly and without an investigation.
This is not far from the truth, since Dukic several days after the letter held a press conference on which he "again, after numerous previous attempts," asked " Croatia to solve the problem of the citizenship of the Serb refugees." Which problem? Problem for whom? They, with the escape clearly showed what they thought about their citizenship. Before that, they with logs, drunken howling, wooden skewers, arson, abductions, torture, beatings, killings, slaughter, rape, looting, bombs, lunas, orkans [middle range missiles, which were launched on Zagreb by the Serbs], snipers, mortars, aircraft - showed where their patriotism was and what they thought about the Croatian state. They spit on and desecrated the croatian coat of arms and the flag and thus clearly showed what they thought about the patriotism and croatian statehood. Finally, they fled, looting everything and taking with them conscience black as coals and with that proved what they think about their citizenship.
At the end of the press conference Veselin Pejnovic informed saddened Croatian public that "In the FR Yugoslavia they are mostly thinking about how to return the Serb refugees to their homes in Croatia." We never doubted that. Of course Milosevic wants to get rid of them, of course that he wants to return his conquering fifth column to Croatia. We are wandering why Veselin Pejnovic even cares about that? Certainly, he doesn't have doubts about his patriotism, loyalty and his personal position regarding Milosevic's "musings".
