A return of additional ethnic Albanian families to the Anka Spaic residential district was organized with the escort of the French KFOR soldiers on Thursday around 4p.m. But, Serbs tried to obstruct the return of ethnic Albanians to the northern part of the town by blocking the roads. Despite the blockade, some ethnic Albanians managed to brake trough to their houses wherefrom shortly afterwards they started shooting from automatic and other weapons on unarmed Serbs, mostly women and children. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, French soldiers reacted, so that after a brief shooting, everything calmed down.
In the evening hours, the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica was left without electricity and phone service, while in the same time a group of over 100 ethnic Albanians, cheering the terrorists KLA, forded the Ibar river to the northern part of town and placed an Albanian flag right by the bridge in the plain view of French KFOR soldiers. KFOR members and gendarmes then encircled the Albanians and practically protected them with their bodies, shields, and armor vehicles from the Serbs gathered on the square by the bridge. Many foreign TV reporters were present at the scene as well, taking pictures of the hoisting of the Albanian flag and the "conquest" of the northern part of the city.
Meanwhile, Danish and Belgian KFOR soldiers had blocked all the roads towards Kosovska Mitrovica in order to prevent mass arrival of Serbs from Zvecan and nearby villages who wanted to help their compatriots in Mitrovica.
Around 7p.m., ethnic Albanian extremists threw two bombs on Serbs on the bridge and fired several missiles from the southern part of the town. A bomb ended under a jeep of the French KFOR contingent and it was blown to pieces.
Realizing that the mad Albanians cannot be controlled, the Frenchmen reacted and pushed them back to the southern part of the city and fired two "shock" bombs towards the gathered Serbs "armed" with stones in order to force them to leave.
Somewhat before 10p.m. a group of some 100 Serbs broke through from Zvecan despite the blockade and organized peaceful demonstrations together with the inhabitants of Kosovska Mitrovica demanding protection, peace and freedom. The situation calmed down about 11p.m. French soldiers blocked the bridge and when the situation calmed down, electricity and phone service came back.
Consequences of the barbaric behavior of ethnic Albanians are 32 injured Serbs. Most of them were hurt by shrapnel and they were immediately hospitalized in the Kosovska Mitrovica hospital. Milija Pavlovic and Miodrag Draskic were transferred to Belgrade due to the serious injuries and 12 injured persons were held for the medical treatment. The rest were allowed to go home. We unofficially learnt that 4 French KFOR soldiers were injured as well.
Friday morning passed peacefully. Situation is still tense and Serbs are bravely guarding their families and homes by the bridge. It's important, they say, to persevere for 10 more days [when KLA is supposed to be disbanded].
